The Organization of Nematologists of Tropical America FL, Inc. (ONTA) is a nonprofit entity comprised of members who have an interest in the study of plant-parasitic, free-living and insect-parasitic nematodes.

Travel Awards 

ONTA Foundation Inc. is requesting applications for graduate and undergraduate student travel awards to attend International Scientific Meetings of nematological nature as decided by Board of Directors. The amount of these awards is $500 each. Deadline for submission for these awards is at least three months before the meeting.

Competition Guidelines

To be eligible for these awards, an individual must present a talk or be a participant in the annual Rod Rodríguez-Kábana student poster competition sponsored by ONTA Foundation Inc. The documentation for travel awards should include: i) application form, ii) copy of the abstract, iii) one page biographical sketch and iv) a letter from the major professor certifying the status of need of the applicant. These documents should be submitted to Charles Overstreet (coverstreet@agcenter.lsu.edu), who has been appointed chair the Award Committee by the board of directors of ONTA Foundation Inc. The members of the committee for this competition are selected by the chair among scientists of different nationality and recognized internationally for their research, expertise and teaching in the field of nematology. Committee members will judge the qualification of the applicant using the following criteria: i) scientific quality of the research to be presented, ii) conciseness, clarity and readability of the abstract submitted and iii) financial need. At present, travel awards have been made available for attending scientific events planned by Organization of Nematologists of Tropical America FL, Inc. and other nematological events at discretion of the board of directors of the Foundation.
